Star Wars: Battlefront 3 reportedly being co-developed by Battlefield studio DICE and Apex Legends studio Respawn
A new Star Wars: Battlefront game is reportedly being developed jointly by DICE and Respawn, according to multiple sources cited by Variety. The report gives substance to recent rumours about a third game, while coming amid major cuts and project cancellations at EA.
EA confirmed that DICE and Respawn are collaborating on a project but did not identify it. Battlefront 2 launched in 2017 to a mixed reception, with backlash over loot boxes that DICE later removed; the game continued to receive support until 2020. If made, Battlefront 3 would follow the 2022 cancellation of a reported Battlefront 2 follow-up and would be published by EA, which was acquired in a $55 billion deal involving Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.
In short
- DICE and Respawn are reportedly working on Battlefront 3.
- EA has confirmed the studios are collaborating on an unnamed project.
- The report follows years of Battlefront 2 controversy and support.
