Star Wars Officially Takes Over Super Bowl LXI for 50th Anniversary

Disney and ESPN will air a Star Wars-themed Funday Football alongside Super Bowl LXI on 14 February 2027, tying the animated broadcast to the franchise’s 50th anniversary. The alternative telecast will recreate the live game with animated player avatars and Star Wars characters, bringing the celebration to a major sporting event.

The presentation will be available on Disney+, the ESPN app, Disney Channel and Disney XD in more than 155 markets. Anthony Daniels is set to return as the voice of C-3PO, while further details about the setting, commentators and characters are due closer to the game. The broadcast uses NFL Next Gen Stats and Sony Hawk-Eye tracking; the first Funday Football earned three Sports Emmy Awards.
