Star Wars: the Ninth Jedi Ending Explained and How It Sets Up Season 2

Polygon · 1 hour ago

Lucasfilm's latest animated Star Wars project, The Ninth Jedi, has released its full eight-episode first season on Disney Plus, produced by Japanese studio Production I.G. Following on from Star Wars: Visions shorts and coming soon after Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, the series follows Jedi apprentice Lah Kara as she searches for her father, Lah Zhima, and rallies allies against the tyrannical General Nawaam, while questions swirl over her father's true loyalties and past.

The finale sees Kara and her allies race to stop Nawaam using a giant kyber crystal on the icy world of Hy Izlan to power a cannon capable of tearing the galaxy apart, with Nawaam's descent into darkness traced back to witnessing Zhima kill his own master years earlier. Fleets from the planets Bibin and Makoma Ko arrive to aid the fight, echoing the climactic rescue in The Rise of Skywalker, while a smaller group including Kara, Zhima and droid Bee-Toh confronts Nawaam directly; Kara ultimately duels the general herself after her father is seemingly defeated, setting up questions about what comes next for the newly formed Jedi Order in a potential second season.

  • The Ninth Jedi's full first season is now streaming on Disney Plus.
  • Finale sees Kara duel General Nawaam over a galaxy-destroying kyber cannon.
  • Ending sets up possible season two for Kara's new Jedi Order.
