Starfield “remains an important part of our future” says Bethesda, as developer pledges continued support for sci-fi RPG

Eurogamer · 1 month ago

Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that Starfield will continue to receive support, describing the sci-fi RPG as "an important part of our future" despite recent layoffs and a stated refocus on core franchises such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. The reassurance came in a wide-ranging blog post covering the future of all its RPG series, with Starfield given its own dedicated section titled "Starfield Continues", suggesting the studio still sees value in the title even after a mixed critical and commercial reception at launch.

Bethesda revealed that Starfield has been played by more than 17 million people for almost a billion hours combined, and said the game's third year of post-launch support will bring new stories, gameplay improvements and further updates, alongside additional "Starborn content" next year. The studio also highlighted its Starfield Creations modding system, which it says over 40% of players have used. The announcement follows layoffs at Bethesda as part of a wider Xbox "reset", which reportedly hit staff morale and affected work on Elder Scrolls 6, prompting the Bethesda developer union to announce plans to protest the cuts.
