Starz Posts First Quarter Revenue Dip as Digital-Led Strategy Shows Momentum

The Hollywood Reporter · 3 weeks ago

Starz reported lower second-quarter revenue and a much wider net loss, but said its shift towards streaming is gaining momentum. The company argues that stronger digital performance, audience engagement and lower future restructuring costs should support its aim of returning to annual OTT revenue growth in 2026.

Revenue fell to $307.9 million from $319.7 million a year earlier, as linear and other revenue declined to $86.6 million while streaming revenue remained broadly flat at $221.3 million. Net loss widened to $189.4 million, largely because of a $147 million charge linked to ending its Universal Pictures output agreement; Starz expects annual content costs of about $600 million and plans to expand franchises including Power and Outlander.

  • Starz revenue fell as traditional cable income continued declining.
  • A one-off restructuring charge drove the larger quarterly loss.
  • The company says streaming engagement and international licensing are improving.
