Steam gets a boatload of restored Wing Commanders and Ultima ports after EA producer stumbles across cupboard of old tapes
EA has released 25 restored classic games and ports on Steam, GOG and the EA App, including titles from the Wing Commander and Ultima series. The release follows EA producer Jim Vessella’s discovery of a room containing old tapes and discs, which prompted him to persuade the company to make the games available again.
Some versions have quality-of-life updates and higher-resolution full-motion video sourced from master tapes, while others are described as faithful ports. On Steam, the games are under £5 each during an introductory sale; prices for the most expensive are due to rise to just under £10 after 19 November. The releases add to efforts to preserve older games.
