Stephen King has publicly praised director Mike Flanagan's new Prime Video adaptation of his debut novel Carrie, calling it "brilliant" after the streamer released its official trailer. The endorsement carries weight because King was reportedly sceptical when he first heard about the project, questioning what a new version could add given previous adaptations, including Brian De Palma's 1976 film, a 2002 TV movie and the 2013 remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz.

Flanagan's version updates the story for the present day, showing how Carrie White's bullying now extends beyond school through social media, with classmates filming and sharing footage of her humiliation online. King, who serves as an executive producer, said on Threads that "what it has to say about social media is shocking and true." The eight-episode series stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie and Samantha Sloyan as her mother Margaret, alongside Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton and Joel Oulette, with Flanagan serving as showrunner, writer and director of four episodes; it premieres on Prime Video on 7 October.
