Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick’s Near-Perfect Sci-Fi Fairytale Is Officially Back on Streaming

Polygon ·

Steven Spielberg’s *A.I. Artificial Intelligence* is back on streaming on Peacock. The 2001 science-fiction film, developed with Stanley Kubrick and completed by Spielberg after Kubrick’s death, retells the Pinocchio story through a robot child’s longing to be loved and accepted.

Set in a future shaped by climate catastrophe, the film follows David, a prototype mecha played by Haley Joel Osment, whose programming makes him love his human mother, Monica, unconditionally. His place in the family becomes fraught when her son Martin recovers from a coma, and the story explores human selfishness and belonging as much as artificial intelligence. The film divided audiences over its bleak world and fairytale-like ending.
