Steven Spielberg’s Colossal 4-Part Netflix Series Surges Toward 100M Viewing Hours in 2026

Steven Spielberg's Netflix docuseries The Dinosaurs is on course to rack up close to 100 million viewing hours in 2026, cementing it as one of the streamer's standout non-fiction hits of the year. The four-part series, narrated by Morgan Freeman, sees the 79-year-old director return to a subject he first popularised through Jurassic Park, this time producing a factual account of the prehistoric creatures rather than a fictionalised one. Its success underlines Spielberg's enduring pull with audiences, coming in the same year he also released the alien-themed film Disclosure Day.

Released on Netflix in March, The Dinosaurs combines Industrial Light & Magic's visual effects with Spielberg's producing credit to recreate dinosaurs, from armoured Triceratops to feathered, bird-like Hesperornis, in striking detail. Reviewers have praised it as an immersive and unexpectedly emotional journey spanning the dinosaurs' origins through to their sudden extinction, with the same meticulous attention given to environmental detail, such as wind-blown grass, as to the animals themselves. It follows Spielberg's earlier Netflix nature series Life on Our Planet, continuing his run of prestige documentary projects for the platform.
