Steven Zaillian & Richard Price Limited Series Getting Netflix Order, Reuniting ‘The Night Of’ Duo
Netflix has ordered a new six-episode limited series from Steven Zaillian, reuniting him with writer Richard Price, his collaborator on HBO's acclaimed 2016 series The Night Of. The project, tentatively titled Ghettoside, marks Zaillian's second series for Netflix following the Emmy-winning success of Ripley, and cements a growing relationship between the director and the streamer after it picked up Ripley from Showtime amid a strategy shift there.
The crime drama has been greenlit based on several completed scripts, though details such as rights are reportedly still being finalised. It draws on Jill Leovy's 2015 non-fiction book Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America as source material, and will be executive produced by Zaillian and Price alongside frequent collaborator Garrett Basch. Ripley earned 13 Emmy nominations and four wins, including one for Zaillian's directing, while The Night Of received 13 nominations and five wins, including a lead actor award for Riz Ahmed. Netflix declined to comment on the new project.
