Stevie Nicks has revealed that her song "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)" was written in two stages decades apart, blending her long, turbulent relationship with former Fleetwood Mac bandmate and partner Lindsey Buckingham with themes from the "Twilight" film saga. She began the track in the 1970s while dating Buckingham, then added a second verse after watching "Twilight: New Moon", weaving lyrics about Bella and Edward's romance into lines originally written about Buckingham decades earlier.

Nicks has described herself as a genuine "Twilighter" and credits finishing the song with reviving her recording career: after 2001's "Trouble in Shangri-La", she had been discouraged by industry feedback from making another album, but completing "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)" prompted her to tell her assistant she was finally ready to record again, ending a decade-long gap without a new album. She has said the finished song ultimately fuses her real-life relationship with Buckingham and the fictional Bella-Edward romance "all mixed into one".
