Stranger Things star Maya Hawke joins the cast of Hasbro’s Magic: The Gathering movie

Maya Hawke has become the first actor announced for Hasbro’s upcoming Magic: The Gathering film, in a role that has not been disclosed but is expected to be important. Her casting is notable because producers reportedly prioritised offering her a part before auditions began for the rest of the ensemble.

Announced in 2025, the film is intended to launch a broader screen universe drawing on the tabletop game’s 33-year history, including potential films, streaming shows and other content. Johnson will direct from a script by Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald; the story, tone and release date have not been announced. Hawke recently finished playing Robin in Stranger Things and is next due to appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
