Street artist makes US history with stunning NYC mural — and didn’t even know it
Dominican artist Néstor Omar García, known as Angurria, helped create what the article describes as America’s tallest mural on a 29-storey public-housing tower in the Bronx. The 307-foot work celebrates neighbourhood life and reflects residents’ ideas about how their community should be portrayed.
Titled “Un MAR de Gente / From Every Shore”, the mural depicts three generations and themes of shared community across its sections representing past, present and future. García and fellow artists Johann Baez and Mario Resende spent 22 days painting it, using about 700 spray-paint cans, acrylic paint and 30 gallons of sealant; permits and approvals took five months.
