Struggling Inter Miami are finalizing hire of Kily González as new head coach

The Guardian · 2 hours ago

Inter Miami are close to appointing former Argentina international Cristian “Kily” González as head coach, replacing interim manager Guillermo Hoyos amid a five-match winless run. The change is significant for a side expected to defend its MLS Cup title but now struggling for form despite Lionel Messi’s return and several high-profile signings.

Hoyos took charge after Javier Mascherano resigned in April and has been suspended for one match over repeated late kick-offs. González, from Messi’s home city of Rosario, has a 32.5% career win rate as a manager and most recently coached Platense; Inter Miami sit 10 points behind Eastern Conference leaders Nashville, third in the Supporters’ Shield table.

  • Inter Miami are finalising Kily González’s appointment as head coach.
  • Guillermo Hoyos’ interim spell is expected to end.
  • The MLS Cup holders are five matches without a win.
