Kansas student survives pile-up and 70-foot fall from bridge
A 20-year-old Kansas University student, Kyra Kinnison, has survived an extraordinary sequence of accidents that could easily have proved fatal. After escaping a four-vehicle pile-up on Highway K-18, she attempted to avoid an oncoming car by jumping back but instead fell 70 feet over the side of a bridge, only to be rescued by first responders using specialist high-angle rescue equipment.
The incident occurred last Friday night near Ogden, Kansas, approximately 60 miles west of Topeka. Kinnison sustained serious injuries including fractures to her back, vertebrae, pelvis and tailbone, requiring hip realignment surgery on Monday evening. She remains hospitalised but is reportedly recovering well given the severity of her fall. Her close friend Sara Celeen has set up a fundraiser to help the animal science and production management student cover her medical bills and living expenses.
