The Ventana Grill, a popular cliffside wedding venue in Pismo Beach, California, has been ordered to close immediately after a court ruled it is at risk of collapsing into the Pacific Ocean due to coastal erosion. The San Luis Obispo Superior Court decision, made after a year-long legal battle between the venue's landlord and its operating company, has left couples with upcoming weddings scrambling to find alternative venues at short notice, while 79 staff face losing their jobs.

The closure follows landlord CCC PSC Owner's claim that geotechnical experts identified "significant stability issues" on the bluff where the restaurant sits, a dispute that began in July last year. Operator Old Custom House, Inc. contested the findings and argued the closure would devastate staff and cancel countless bookings, but a judge sided with the landlord on 27 August, setting a closure deadline of 18 September. The restaurant, which had served Latin-fusion seafood since 2010, stopped taking reservations and remained open for visits until 12 September, with local wedding venues in Pismo Beach and nearby Templeton offering to help displaced couples.
