Subaru plans to end petrol car sales in Europe by 2027

Engadget ·

Subaru plans to stop selling petrol-powered cars in Europe by the end of 2027 and move to an all-electric line-up. The change reflects stricter EU emissions and driver-assistance rules, and will end the European run of models such as the Outback, Impreza, Crosstrek and Forester.

The Outback is due to be discontinued there at the end of this year, followed by the Impreza, Crosstrek and Forester in 2027. From 2028, Subaru expects to offer three electric models in the EU: the Solterra, E-Outback and Uncharted, developed with Toyota. Subaru sold 23,000 vehicles in the bloc last year, representing 0.2 per cent of the market, and says it is also developing its next-generation EV technology in-house.

  • Subaru will end European sales of petrol cars by 2027.
  • Three electric models are planned for the EU from 2028.
  • The shift follows tighter EU emissions and safety requirements.
