Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has said the club need further defensive reinforcements before the new season, despite recent clarity over the futures of several centre-backs. His comments underline that central defence remains a priority in the transfer market and that the current squad lacks sufficient depth.

Wilder said Japh Tanganga and Jamal Baptiste would not provide enough options on their own. Mark McGuinness is not in his plans, while Nils Zätterström is expected to seek a loan move; United have also held talks with Leicester City over Harry Souttar.
