Consequence · 4 hours ago

Sunn O))) have appeared on Amoeba Records' long-running "What's In My Bag?" series, in which musicians select albums and other items from the shop to give viewers insight into their influences. The doom metal duo's episode stands out for the breadth of genres on display, moving well beyond the heavy music scene they are known for and reflecting the eclectic listening that shapes their work.

Members Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley picked a wide range of records, opening with John Lee Hooker's blues album "No Friend Around" and Bill Orcutt's experimental jazz release "Music in Continuous Motion". Their selections also included jazz figures such as Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane and Alice Coltrane, metal act Venom, underground artists Beatriz Feneyra and Joshua Abrahms, the raga record "Call of the Valley", and a collection of traditional Japanese court music. They closed with Gil Scott-Heron's "A Legend in His Own Mind", a new Exodus album and Rosalía's "Lux". The appearance comes as Sunn O))) prepare for an October tour supporting their recent self-titled album.
