NBC has confirmed that its new half-hour comedy Sunset P.I. will premiere in February, with showrunners Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici discussing their creative influences at the network's Backlot Press Day panel in Los Angeles. The pair, best known for executive producing Brooklyn Nine-Nine, said the series draws on the romantic tension of 1980s dramedy Moonlighting and the tonal balance achieved by HBO Max's The Pitt, aiming to blend case-of-the-week storytelling with ongoing plot threads and ensemble workplace comedy.

The show follows Mickey (Jake Johnson), a cynical, heartbroken former LAPD officer turned private investigator, working alongside boss Garner Taggart (Keith David), his son Mitch (Langston Kerman) and colleague Raya (Mary Shalaby) at the Garner Taggart PI Agency. Jane Levy, who did not attend the panel, plays investigative journalist Faye, with Goor praising her on-screen chemistry with Johnson. Del Tredici said the goal was to combine elements of beloved network comedies such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Parks and Recreation, while The Pitt's mix of streaming-style depth and network accessibility informed the show's structure.
