Greg Hawthorne, a running back who won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has died at the age of 69, his family announced on social media. His death marks the loss of another member of the Steelers' successful teams of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Hawthorne was selected by the Steelers with the 28th overall pick out of Fort Worth Polytechnic in the 1979 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he was part of the Steelers side that beat the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl XIV, adding a championship to his early professional career.
