Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie directly prompted Nintendo to develop new Star Fox and Yoshi games, in an interview with Famitsu covered by Nintendo Everything. He explained that once the studio decided to write Fox McCloud and Yoshi into the film, this created momentum for accompanying game projects, though he stressed such decisions are made on a case-by-case basis rather than following a fixed formula.

Miyamoto also revealed that a similar process occurred with the first Mario movie, where discussions around Princess Peach's portrayal fed into the development of Princess Peach: Showtime! The new Yoshi title, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, is coming to Switch 2, while a new Star Fox game was also greenlit following the character's inclusion in the Galaxy Movie script. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie itself begins streaming on Peacock from 30th July 2026 and is already available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra-HD, having been scored 6/10 by Nintendo Life for its faithful presentation but weaker narrative.
