Superchunk Cover Wham!, The Magnetic Fields, & Galaxie 500 On Surprise New Wintry Mix EP
Superchunk have surprise-released *Wintry Mix*, a winter-themed EP featuring one new song and four covers. The release continues the North Carolina band’s tradition of putting out occasional one-off records and brings together seasonal material from indie and pop acts.
The EP opens with “Shortest Day Of The Year”, a new, energetic Superchunk song with sleigh bells. Its covers are Wham!’s “Last Christmas”, two songs from the Magnetic Fields’ 2017 album *50 Song Memoir*, and Galaxie 500’s “Snowstorm”, originally released on *On Fire* in 1989. The article says Superchunk give each track the sound of their own band.
