Supergirl Now Available to Watch Online After Box Office Struggles

IGN · 4 hours ago

Supergirl has become available to rent or buy digitally on platforms such as Prime Video, roughly a month after its theatrical debut, following a disappointing run at the box office. The DCU film has grossed just over $124 million worldwide against an estimated $170 million budget, making it one of the weakest-performing DC Comics adaptations to date, and its early move to digital and home video reflects studios' efforts to recoup losses once cinema takings falter.

The film opened to around $68 million but suffered a 74% drop in attendance in its second weekend, and reviews have been mixed, with a 53% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes; IGN's own review gave it 6/10 while praising Milly Alcock's lead performance. DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran acknowledged it fell short of expectations but insisted it remains part of a broader long-term strategy. Digital rental costs $19.99 and purchase $24.99, with a Prime Video bundle alongside Superman priced at $29.99, while physical formats including a 4K steelbook are due out on 8 September; Supergirl is expected to arrive on HBO Max around the same time.
