Superman is one of DC Comics’ best-known superheroes, an alien raised on Earth who works as the journalist Clark Kent while protecting people with extraordinary powers. The character has appeared in films for decades and is central to DC’s shared screen universe of heroes and villains.

James Gunn is the co-head of DC Studios and is directing its new Superman films. David Corenswet plays Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan plays journalist Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult plays the villain Lex Luthor, a powerful businessman and long-time opponent of Superman.

The sequel is part of DC Studios’ effort to build an interconnected series of films and television programmes. Its progress matters because Superman is intended to be a leading figure in that wider plan.
