Surrey beat Kent to go level with Foxes at the top
Surrey secured a comfortable 95-run victory over Kent in the One-Day Cup at The Kia Oval, moving level on points with Group A leaders Leicestershire. Both sides knew a win would take them to the top of the table, and with the match reduced to 49 overs a side due to rain, Surrey's openers laid the foundation before their bowlers finished the job.
Surrey were bowled out for 286 after Ryan Patel (73) and Dom Sibley (53) put on a century opening stand, with late cameos from Rory Burns and Ollie Sykes helping push the total on despite tight bowling from Matt Milnes. Kent, chasing having successfully overhauled totals of 294 and 314 in their previous two games, slumped to 88-5 before a 86-run stand between Jaydn Denly (51) and Ekansh Singh (46) offered brief resistance. They were eventually dismissed for 191, with Tom Lawes taking four wickets, leaving Surrey level with Leicestershire but trailing them on net run rate with two group matches remaining.

The One-Day Cup is England’s domestic 50-over cricket competition, with teams divided into groups and ranked by points. Surrey and Kent play in the south-east, while Leicestershire, known as the Foxes, are another team in Surrey’s group.
Group position matters because teams are competing to progress to the later stages of the tournament. When teams have the same number of points, net run rate—a measure based on how quickly they score and concede runs—can help separate them.
