Elijah Hemingway, 32, is accused of sexually assaulting and robbing a woman in Wilkinsburg hours before allegedly entering a nearby home and attacking a couple as they slept. The attack killed paediatrician Dr Idris Evans, 46, and critically injured his wife; the allegations have led police to bring further charges against Hemingway.

Police say the woman did not know Hemingway, and investigators recovered items they say link him to the assault, as well as her stolen phone. The additional charges include rape, sexual assault and robbery; charges relating to the home attack include homicide, aggravated assault and burglary. Evans’s wife said the attacker appeared “psychotic” and claimed to be “God”; authorities have not confirmed whether Evans knew Hemingway. Court records cited in the article show Hemingway was released without bail in July in connection with a February burglary.
