Man jailed for 40 years for killing nine-year-old Sarabi Medina

Nine-year-old Sarabi Medina was shot dead outside her family’s Chicago home in August 2023 after a man approached her while she was riding her scooter. Her father said she had just handed him an ice cream and told him, “Here, Daddy, I got you an ice cream”; he tried to stop the attacker, who followed Sarabi inside and shot her.

Michael Goodman, 46, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison without parole, with credit for about three years already served. He told the court he had taken several doses of ketamine and could not remember the shooting, but Sarabi’s father said Goodman had focused on killing his daughter. The judge said Goodman would be 83 if he lived to be eligible for release.
