Philadelphia emo band Sweet Pill has moved its 19 August Houston concert from White Oak Music Hall to Bad Astronaut after learning the original venue hosted a campaign event for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The band said the decision reflected its opposition to Paxton’s politics and pledged to donate money to Montrose Grace Place, which supports vulnerable young people facing homelessness.

The backlash followed a 13 August event at White Oak Music Hall where Paxton, a US Senate candidate, appeared upstairs while Meet Me @ the Altar and Leisure Hour performed downstairs; those bands reportedly had not known about the political event beforehand. White Oak Music Hall said it operates as a neutral rental venue and does not endorse private-event speakers or groups, citing past events involving politicians from different parties; its statement was later deleted.
