Sheffield Wednesday are pressing ahead with an estimated £8.5m programme of improvements at Hillsborough, including a safe-standing trial. The work is intended to modernise facilities, address long-standing infrastructure and safety issues, and improve the matchday experience ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Rail seating is planned for rows 27 to 47 of the North Stand’s T1 block, with supporters able to retain their seats or move elsewhere. If the trial succeeds, the club hopes eventually to extend safe standing to parts of the Kop and West Stand; the wider project also includes North Stand roof work, a new pitch, water-system upgrades, improved Wi-Fi, signage and facility refurbishments.

  • Safe standing will be trialled in North Stand T1.
  • The Hillsborough renovation is estimated at £8.5m.
  • Wider upgrades aim to prepare the ground for 2026/27.
