Switch 2 Has Reportedly Already Surpassed GameCube’s UK Sales

Nintendo Life · 3 hours ago

The Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly overtaken the GameCube's UK sales after just one year on the market, according to industry analyst Christopher Dring of The Game Business, writing on Bluesky. This marks another milestone in what has been a strong UK sales run for the console, though it comes alongside a mixed picture for Nintendo overall, as only Xbox saw stronger first-half sales in 2026 compared with 2025 among platform holders.

The Switch 2 now ranks as the 13th best-selling console in UK history (excluding handhelds) and the fourth best-selling Nintendo console, trailing only the Nintendo 64. UK Switch 2 sales are up 16% year-on-year for the first half, though combined Switch 1 and Switch 2 sales paint a weaker overall picture for Nintendo than the same period last year. Globally, Nintendo's most recent financial figures (to March 2026) show the Switch 2 at 19.86 million units sold, still slightly behind the GameCube's lifetime total of 21.74 million, though updated figures due next month may show it has since overtaken the GameCube worldwide too.
