SwitchBot’s retrofit door lock offers 19 ways to unlock it
SwitchBot has unveiled a new retrofit smart lock at IFA aimed at the European market, offering homeowners up to 19 different ways to unlock their doors without a traditional key. The launch matters because it expands SwitchBot's push into smart home security, targeting broad compatibility with existing European door hardware rather than requiring a full lock replacement.
The SwitchBot Lock Ultra Max Vision Pro Combo costs €339.99/£339.99 (around $395) and includes the Keypad Vision Pro, Hub Mini Matter and the new Lock Ultra Max unit. Unlocking methods include fingerprint scans, passcodes, NFC cards, facial or palm vein recognition, and remote, voice, smartwatch or app-widget access. SwitchBot says the lock fits 99% of European locks, including EU profile, knob, Swiss round and UK oval cylinders, with adapters for less common setups, and its motor delivers over 9kg of turning force at 160rpm, 3.2 times faster than the previous Lock Ultra model.
In short
- SwitchBot launches retrofit smart lock with 19 unlocking methods
- Costs £339.99, fits 99% of European door locks
- New motor is 3.2x faster than the previous model
Explained simply
Smart locks let people lock and unlock a door electronically, using methods such as a phone, code or fingerprint. Retrofit models attach to existing door hardware, so homeowners can add smart features without replacing the whole lock.
SwitchBot is a smart home company that makes connected devices, including locks. European doors use several cylinder shapes and lock designs, so compatibility with existing hardware can affect whether a retrofit lock is practical.
These locks can offer convenient ways to manage access, including for people who do not have a key to hand. Because they control entry to a home, reliability, security and the different ways to unlock them matter.
