Netflix's live-action adaptation of Gundam, the Japanese mecha franchise, has finished filming after a four-month shoot, marking a significant step towards release for one of the streamer's most anticipated upcoming films. The project forms part of Netflix's continued push into big-budget science fiction, a genre that has previously delivered hits such as The Adam Project and 3 Body Problem, and comes as the platform reports another strong year for viewership across its slate.

Netflix acquired the rights to Gundam in 2021 and later confirmed this as the franchise's first live-action feature, based on the Mobile Suit Gundam series and set during a war between Earth and its space colonies fought with giant armed mobile suits. Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo star as rival pilots at the centre of the conflict. Filming began in April at Village Roadshow Studios on Australia's Gold Coast, with additional locations in Brisbane and Toowoomba, and wrapped this month, with cast wrap-party photos now circulating on social media.
