Synthwave Trio Gunship Releases Hypnotic Video for Their Cover of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time After Time’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 2 hours ago

The synthwave band Gunship has unveiled a music video for their rendition of Cyndi Lauper's 1980s classic 'Time After Time,' which appears on the soundtrack of the recently released horror film 'Whistle.' Filmmaker Corin Hardy both directed the feature and helmed the accompanying visual, which incorporates footage that did not survive the theatrical cut of the film.

The partnership emerged from an established friendship between Hardy and the band, who share mutual enthusiasm for cinema and music. Hardy created 'Whistle' drawing inspiration from 1980s horror cinema, and he selected Gunship's synth-heavy arrangement of the Lauper track as an ideal complement to the nostalgic, eerie atmosphere the project pursues. The film, which centres on a supernatural cursed artifact responsible for teenage deaths, is now available on Shudder and other on-demand platforms.
