Syria says it foiled Hezbollah plot to target Homs oil refinery
Syrian security forces say they disrupted a plot to attack the Homs oil refinery and arrested two people they describe as members of a Hezbollah-affiliated cell. The claim comes amid sharply worsened relations between Damascus and Hezbollah since Bashar al-Assad was overthrown in 2024, and follows other reported threats to Syria’s energy infrastructure.
Syria’s General Intelligence Service said the operation was conducted with Internal Security Forces and that explosive devices were seized, but gave no time or location for the arrests. Hezbollah denied having a presence in Syria or involvement in activities that threaten its security. The Homs facility is one of the country’s two oil refineries and an important source of petroleum products.
