Brazilian production and distribution company Elo Studios has partnered with Portuguese independent producer Bro Cinema to adapt "My Father's Wives", the acclaimed novel by Angolan author José Eduardo Agualusa, into a feature film. Veteran Brazilian actress Taís Araujo has signed on to star, marking a notable cross-border collaboration that strengthens ties between Brazilian, Portuguese and Angolan film industries and brings a celebrated work of contemporary African literature to the screen.

Portuguese filmmaker Mário Patrocínio will direct the film, titled "As Mulheres do Meu Pai" in Portuguese, with Araujo playing Laurentina, a young Mozambican woman raised in Brazil who travels to Angola after learning of her biological father, only to find he has recently died, prompting a journey of identity and belonging. Agualusa, a prize-winning author previously honoured with the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize and shortlisted for the Booker International Prize, said he trusts Patrocínio's vision to preserve the novel's delicacy on screen. Elo Studios chief executive Sabrina Nudeliman Wagon described the project as a strategic step in the company's international expansion, and Elo Studios will also handle the film's distribution in Brazil.
