NBC News has named Tammy Fine as vice president of talent development, putting her in charge of nurturing careers and identifying rising journalists to join the network. The appointment, confirmed in an internal memo, marks a significant shift for Fine, a long-serving producer best known for overseeing high-profile newsmaker interviews during the first hour of "Today". The move matters as part of NBC News' broader efforts to build out its talent pipeline under senior editorial leadership.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Rebecca Blumenstein, president of NBC News Editorial, alongside Cheryl Rosenbloom and Libby Leist, with Fine taking up her new role from 1 September. She began at NBC News as an intern on "NBC Nightly News" in 1993, working alongside Tom Brokaw before rising to senior producer at "Today", where she supervised interviews with every living US president and covered major events including the funerals of Princess Diana and Mother Teresa. Liza Eaton, who previously led the talent development function, will move to a part-time role and report to Fine, while Kristen Powers, who joined earlier this year, will report jointly to Fine and editorial EVP Catherine Kim.

Tammy Fine has spent more than 30 years at NBC News, starting as an intern on "NBC Nightly News" in 1993 and working her way up to senior producer on "Today", where she became known for booking and steering major interviews, including with every living US president.
NBC News is now putting Fine in charge of talent development, a role focused on spotting and nurturing future journalists for the network. The appointment was announced by senior editorial figures including Rebecca Blumenstein, president of NBC News Editorial, and forms part of the network's ongoing effort to build up its bench of reporting talent.
The change also reshuffles who oversees that function day to day: Liza Eaton, who ran talent development before Fine, is moving to a part-time position reporting to her, while another staffer, Kristen Powers, will report to both Fine and a separate NBC News executive.
