NSN Development have withdrawn from the remaining Volta a Portugal stages after British cyclist Finlay Tarling, 19, died in an accident during Friday’s eighth stage. The race will nevertheless continue, with organisers planning tributes before Saturday’s penultimate stage and cancelling sponsor activities in recognition of the tragedy.

Tarling, a Welsh rider and younger brother of Ineos cyclist Josh Tarling, was involved in a collision with a light goods vehicle on the 166.8km route from Melgaço to Fafe; Portuguese authorities are investigating. A promising time-trial specialist, he had finished third in the under-23 British Championships in June and had represented Great Britain on road and track.
