Tate brothers arrested in US after more charges laid against them in UK

BBC World · 7 hours ago

The Tate brothers were apprehended in the United States following British authorities' announcement of expanded criminal allegations. Andrew Tate faces seven further rape charges along with accusations of human trafficking and child exploitation, whilst his brother Tristan was charged with sexual assault, rape, and facilitation of trafficking. Prosecutors state the alleged conduct occurred between 2010 and 2017, bringing the total number of alleged victims to seven.

UK prosecutors are now seeking extradition of the dual British-American nationals, building on 21 charges previously announced in May 2025. The defence team has rejected the new allegations as retaliatory, claiming they were filed in response to defamation lawsuits initiated by the brothers in the United States, and has expressed concerns about whether the pair can receive a fair trial. The Tates, currently based in Romania, have maintained their innocence throughout the investigation.

  • UK prosecutors filed seven additional rape charges against Andrew Tate plus trafficking allegations; Tristan Tate faces sexual assault and trafficking charges spanning 2010–2017
  • Both arrested in US pending extradition to UK; defence characterises charges as retaliation for separate defamation claims and questions trial fairness
