Paramount's upcoming "Call of Duty" film, written by Taylor Sheridan and directed by Peter Berg, will be set within the "Modern Warfare" strand of the video game franchise. Berg revealed the news at a fan panel promoting "Modern Warfare 4" at Fanatics Fest in New York, ending months of secrecy since the project was first announced in September 2025. The confirmation gives fans their first concrete detail about the film's direction, tying it to one of the series' most popular and enduring storylines.
"Modern Warfare" began with "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" in 2007, shifting the franchise away from its original World War II setting to a modern Middle East-based conflict centred on Captain John Price, Task Force 141 and their pursuit of terrorist Vladimir Makarov. The film, still untitled, is set for release on 30 June 2028 and is being produced with publisher Activision, now owned by Xbox. The wider deal, struck with new Paramount owner Skydance, could also see the "Call of Duty" universe expand further across film and television.
