Taylor Swift premiered the “Patient Zero” music video at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, where she also received the inaugural Artist Director Honors. The thriller stars Swift alongside Dakota Johnson, Colin Farrell and Cara Delevingne, and turns the song’s scenario of an ex’s new partner calling for advice into a dark story of manipulation and betrayal.

Swift said the video draws on gothic ghost stories, true crime and psychological thrillers, with a house representing a relationship that has grown cold. Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki worked on the project for the first time with Swift. The song leads four bonus tracks on *The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore*, released the previous Friday; Swift was nominated for 11 VMA awards.
