Documentary to examine foiled plot behind Taylor Swift’s cancelled Vienna concerts
Developed over time first seen 1 day ago
A documentary provisionally titled “Taylor Swift Wien” will examine the foiled plot that led to the cancellation of Taylor Swift’s three Vienna concerts in August 2024. The film will explore online radicalisation and toxic masculinity alongside the Swifties’ community, and how the attack was prevented.
Co-directed by Andreas Pichler and Veronika Kaserer, the documentary will follow intelligence agencies’ efforts to stop the plot, three fans who organised psychological support, and the alleged perpetrator, then 19-year-old Beran A., who had pledged allegiance to Islamic State. More than 200,000 people were expected at the concerts; the film is planned to air on German broadcaster ZDF in October 2027, followed by an international release.

Explained simply
Taylor Swift is an American singer whose concerts draw large crowds and have a highly organised fan community known as Swifties. In August 2024, three concerts planned in Vienna were cancelled after Austrian authorities said they had uncovered a suspected attack plot.
The case involved intelligence agencies, a teenage suspect identified as Beran A., and fans who helped organise psychological support for people affected by the cancellations. The planned documentary looks at those different experiences and at how online radicalisation and youth subcultures relate to the case.
