TCL has launched the P80 Ultra, its first Nxtpaper smartphone to combine an OLED screen with a switchable monochrome, paper-like reading mode. The feature aims to offer an e-reader-style experience for reading or reducing distractions without sacrificing the colour, brightness and smoothness expected from a modern OLED phone.

The 6.83-inch display has 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,200 nits of brightness, while the 5,800mAh battery is claimed to last seven days of active use in Max Ink Mode. The €549 Ultra includes 8GB of RAM, up to 512GB storage, a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite chip and a 50-megapixel 3x telephoto camera; cheaper P80 Pro and P80 models start at €429 and €349 respectively. The phones launch in Europe now, followed by Latin America in October and the US later.
