Team Wales captain Olivia Breen won silver in the T38 100m final at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, securing Wales's first athletics medal of the Games. The defending champion was beaten to gold by England's Sophie Hahn, though Breen edged compatriot Maddie Down for second place in a photo-finish, capping a difficult year in which she battled concussions and injuries.

Breen, who turned 30 the day before the final, clocked a season's best of 12.86 seconds, taking her tally to four Commonwealth medals. It was also Wales's seventh medal of the Glasgow Games, adding to two silvers and five bronzes so far. Breen described the tense wait for the result confirming silver, and, back in her role as team captain, praised the strong showings of Welsh swimmers and gymnasts as the Games continue.
