Tears for Fears’ Roland Orzabal Sows the Seeds of Life in Bestselling ‘Astrological‘ Memoir
Roland Orzabal, co-founder of Tears for Fears, has become a New York Times bestselling author with Welcome to My Life: An Astrological Memoir, published last month by Dey Street Books. The memoir blends the story of his four-decade career and personal life with an explanation of astrology, using his own birth chart as a structural framework for exploring topics ranging from childhood trauma to fame and loss. Editor Carrie Thornton, who had reservations from some fans when the subtitle was announced, says the response since publication has been entirely positive.
The book debuted at Number Three on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list. Orzabal, 65, explained the project grew out of conversations with publishers seeking a conventional memoir; instead, he combined his life story, the band's history, and a deeper explanation of astrology than typical newspaper horoscope columns offer. He has since appeared on The Astrology Podcast, where the host compared the book to Richard Tarnas's Cosmos and Psyche, and says he may consider writing a book devoted entirely to astrology in future.
