Five teenagers filmed wrong-way drive into M4 traffic in Kildare
Five teenage boys drove the wrong way into heavy traffic on the M4 in County Kildare after gardaí pursued them through Leixlip. They filmed the dangerous drive and posted it online, where the footage shows oncoming motorists flashing their lights and swerving to avoid a collision.
The incident happened nearly two months after a wrong-way crash on the M9 killed five teenagers and seriously injured four people in another car. The account later posted footage said to show the same group driving above 160km/h on the N4 and stealing parked cars; one comment threatened another user. Last month, Garda Ombudsman Fiosrú said gardaí had acted appropriately in the M9 pursuit.

The M4 is a major motorway in Ireland, passing through County Kildare, while the N4 is another main road linking Dublin with the west. Gardaí are Ireland’s police service; Fiosrú, the Garda Ombudsman, independently examines complaints and incidents involving gardaí.
The reported drive came amid public attention to road safety after a separate wrong-way crash on the M9 killed five teenagers and left four people in another car seriously injured. Fiosrú later reviewed the gardaí’s actions during the pursuit linked to that crash and said they had acted appropriately.
