Teenage Welsh cyclist Tarling dies in Volta a Portugal accident

British cyclist Finlay Tarling has died aged 19 after a serious accident during the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal. The Welsh rider, who competed for Great Britain on the road and track, was racing for the NSN Development Team; his death has led the race to halt competition and cancel its planned podium ceremony.

The incident occurred on the 166.8km stage from Melgaco to Fafe. Tarling was the younger brother of Netcompany-Ineos rider Josh Tarling, and tributes were issued by his team, race organisers, the Portuguese Cycling Federation and Portugal’s president, Antonio Jose Seguro.
