Teenager killed after being hit by car and thrown into path of second vehicle on Adelaide party strip

Daily Mail · 2 hours ago

An 18-year-old has died after being struck by a car and thrown into the path of a second vehicle while attempting to cross Hindley Street, Adelaide's main nightlife strip, on Saturday night. The incident, which occurred just before 11pm, prompted police to close the busy street and has reignited debate over pedestrian safety on the road, with witnesses and a local councillor renewing calls for it to be closed to traffic during peak weekend periods.

Witnesses described the young man attempting to cross Hindley Street amid heavy foot traffic between bars and clubs when he was hit and knocked into the path of a following car. Local resident Sebastian Dilettoso told Nine News that pedestrians constantly cross the busy strip and called for measures to make crossing safer. City of Adelaide councillor Mary Couros said a redesign of the street was already underway, describing temporary closures as a "quick fix" until the planned upgrade is completed.
