Temporary closures planned at recycling centres

feeds.bbci.co.uk · 2 hours ago

Recycling centres in Barnsley will close temporarily and in phases so that drainage improvement works can be carried out to boost site safety, the council has announced. Smithies Lane Recycling Centre will be the first affected, shutting from 6 August until the end of September, with further improvement works planned at other borough sites into 2027.

In the three days before closure, from 3 to 5 August, Smithies Lane will stop accepting a wide range of items including fridges, TVs, batteries, engine and cooking oil, textiles, glass, paint, vapes, plastics and cans, as some containers are removed ahead of the works. Residents affected by the closure can use alternative recycling centres in Goldthorpe, Penistone and Worsbrough, as well as sites in Doncaster, while Councillor Paul Kelly thanked residents in advance for their patience during the "essential" improvements.
