TeraWulf gets credit backstop from Google for Anthropic data-center project
TeraWulf has secured a credit backstop from Google to support financing for its data-centre project serving Anthropic, the company behind Claude. The arrangement may help TeraWulf obtain long-term debt as it builds costly AI infrastructure, and reflects the growing role of major technology companies in backing such projects.
TeraWulf signed a 20-year lease with Anthropic in July, expected to generate about US$19 billion in contracted revenue. The Kentucky campus is planned to provide around 401 megawatts of critical IT capacity, with initial operations expected in the second half of 2027; TeraWulf also expanded its development agreement with Fluor Enterprises. Its shares fell about 3 per cent in premarket trading amid a wider decline in AI data-centre stocks.
In short
- Google will backstop credit for TeraWulf’s Anthropic project.
- The 20-year lease is expected to bring about US$19 billion.
- Initial capacity is planned for the second half of 2027.
